The committee consisted of representatives of various local institutions. Funds were raised by public appeal and work was supervised by the Dunedin City Council. The committee also distributed food and fuel to the needy. Much of the work was done on a voluntary basis by Miss Elizabeth Jane Runciman, Secretary of the Tailoresses Union. The records include minutes, executive committee papers, subscription lists and financial records.
